Dear Colleagues,
We warmly invite you all to join us at the upcoming 20th EuGMS congress in Valencia, Spain, from September 18th to 20th 2024. Last year in Helsinki, we had a record number of 1,755 participants, with the vast majority attending onsite. Once more a great opportunity to meet and connect international colleagues from Europe and beyond. Together with colleagues from the local organizing committee, the Academic Board has prepared a varied and attractive programme of the congress. The scope is broad and appealing with something for everybody – clinicians, clinical scientists, trainees, educationalists, and health service researchers. Moreover, the programme will highlight state-of-the-art clinical practices, recent advances, new data, and views from different stakeholders, in a format designed to encourage interaction and collaboration.
This year we aspire to create a captivating event together, centred around the theme:
From Healthy Ageing to Complex Needs in Older Adults
How people age varies significantly among individuals, but also between regions and countries. This underscores the importance of adapting our healthcare structure to serve to these diverse groups, both from medical and societal perspectives. Personalized and adaptive approaches are essential to address the diversity and complexity care consumption and prevention needs.
‘Healthy Ageing’ is a hot topic in our societies, research, and politics, notably with the ongoing ‘Decade of Healthy Ageing’ declared by the United Nations. Exciting research fields such as artificial intelligence and biogerontology are witnessing emerging clinical translations. However, given our ageing societies, ‘Ageing well’ is equally crucial as it gives room to optimize quality of life and functioning, even amidst adversities and complex health issues commonly experienced in later stages of life. Spanish colleagues have a long track record of studies on longevity associated with genetic inheritance and its link to reduced incidence of frailty, and the development of regenerative medicine through a better understanding of the mechanisms of successful ageing.
As health care professionals entrusted with the care and cure of older adults, we need to continuously evolve and adapt our care pathways to meet the diverse and complex needs of those seeking our assistance. Close collaboration with researchers and policymakers is essential develop and successfully implement innovative strategies.
In Valencia, we can reunite with old friends and forge new connections in a diverse and multidisciplinary environment. Our congress venue offers both comfort and convenience, easily accessible from the city centre and airport (around 15 min to/from the APT and to/from the centre). Valencia can be easily reached through daily direct flights from most European Countries, as well as African, American and Asian Countries.
We eagerly anticipate welcoming all of you, colleagues, and friends, both familiar faces and new acquaintances, in Valencia from September 18th to 20th, 2024.
With warm regards,
Mirko Petrovic
